Lisbon by Design kicks off another edition with a focus on sustainability, showcasing the work of 28 designers, artists, and studios from May 22 to 25 at the Palacete Gomes Freire in Lisbon. This event, now in its 5th edition, continues to celebrate contemporary Portuguese design while fostering international recognition.
Founded by Julie de Halleux, the event has evolved from a design fair into a platform for emerging talent, offering a rigorous selection process that highlights the best in the industry. This year, the spotlight is on sustainable and ethical production, with designers exploring circular materials and innovative reuse of waste.
Highlights of the Event
- 28 designers present 13 individual installations and 6 artistic collaborations.
- De La Espada makes its debut with an experimental installation curated by Sam Baron.
- Burel Factory and Blackcork collaborate on a sustainable furniture collection using burel and cork.
- Studio Mirante teams up with Petit Bouquet and Ana Rita de Arruda for a textured, floral-inspired space.
Workshops and Talks
Attendees can participate in workshops on tapestry techniques by Omarcity World and attend talks on eco-design and sustainability, including "Contemporary Design and Sustainability" by Baptiste Da Silva and Rosana Sousa.
New Features
- The garden area opens for the first time, offering a lounge space with organic wines from Morgado do Quintão.
- A sustainable design award includes a €1,000 prize and an artistic residency in the Algarve.
