Madeira International Airport experienced significant disruptions this Tuesday, with a total of 40 flights cancelled due to strong winds. The adverse weather conditions, characterized by powerful gusts, have severely impacted air operations since early morning, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
According to ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, the cancellations affected both domestic and international flights. Additionally, several aircraft were forced to divert to alternative airports, including Porto Santo, Lisbon, Faro, and Tenerife, after attempting to land in Madeira.

The maximum wind gust recorded on Tuesday, July 1st, was 77 km/h at 18:00, with a slight decrease to 74 km/h in the following hour at the Madeira Airport weather station. The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts moderate to strong winds (30 to 40 km/h) for the eastern and western extremities of Madeira and Porto Santo Island on July 2nd.
