During a joint operation conducted by the PSP and GNR over the weekend, two restaurants were closed, and 47 individuals were arrested in various municipalities including Barreiro and Cascais.
Operation Details
In a statement released today, the GNR announced that as part of the campaign "Portugal Sempre Seguro", they conducted checks on road traffic and night entertainment venues across seven municipalities. This operation led to:
- 47 arrests
- 17 for driving under the influence of alcohol
- 9 for driving without a valid license
- 7 for drug trafficking
- 1 for possession of a prohibited weapon
Inspections and Violations
Over the two-day period, five establishments were inspected, resulting in:
- 16 citations for violations
- Total suspension of operations for two restaurants
Seizures
The operation also resulted in the seizure of:
- 406 individual doses of drugs:
- 171 of hashish
- 128 of cannabis
- 20 of cocaine
- 15 vehicles
- 30 pyrotechnic items
- 1 firearm
- 2 knives
- 1 defense spray
Road Safety Enforcement
In terms of road safety, the GNR noted:
- 206 citations for traffic violations, including:
- 30 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection
- 15 for driving with excess alcohol
- 13 for lack of mandatory insurance
- 9 for not wearing a seatbelt
- 8 for improper use of mobile phones while driving
Personnel Involved
The operation involved 422 agents from both the GNR and PSP, as well as inspectors from the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE), Tax Authority (AT), Authority for Working Conditions (ACT), and Customs.
Objective
The GNR stated that the main goal of these actions was to enhance visibility in areas with high concentrations of people while preventing and combating crime to deter criminal activities in general.
