A major anti-corruption operation is underway across Portugal, involving the Judicial Police (PJ), the Public Ministry (MP), and the European Public Prosecutor's Office. Searches have been conducted at multiple locations, including the INEM headquarters in Lisbon and the Universities of Porto and Coimbra.
The investigation focuses on alleged fraud in obtaining funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Public entities are suspected of falling victim to a price-fixing scheme among IT companies in public tenders.
The University of Porto has stated it is cooperating fully with authorities, acknowledging it may have been a victim in a cartel related to IT equipment purchases. The institution is considering joining the case as an assistant if charges are brought against any of its employees.
This operation, dubbed 'Operation Nexus', also saw the Bank of Portugal being searched, marking its second such incident in three months over corruption allegations.
