An off-duty officer from the PSP's Special Unit (UEP) successfully intervened in a robbery attempt at a barber shop in Lisbon, detaining three young assailants until patrol colleagues arrived.
The Incident
On Monday evening, around 6:40 PM, three youths (two aged 17 and one 15) targeted a 19-year-old employee of a barber shop on Avenida de Madrid, Lisbon. They attempted to steal a bag he was carrying. The victim managed to escape into the shop, but the assailants followed, brandishing a knife to threaten him.
Heroic Intervention
The victim's cries for help caught the attention of the 39-year-old UEP officer, who was passing by off-duty. The officer quickly intervened, preventing the robbery and holding the assailants until backup arrived. A patrol from the Olaias police station responded promptly. The victim sustained a knee injury but did not require hospitalization.
Aftermath
The youngest assailant was handed over to his father, while the older two were taken into police custody. Authorities confiscated two bladed weapons and a balaclava. The case has been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
