Man Detained by Judicial Police in Madeira
A 46-year-old man has been arrested by the Judicial Police through the Madeira Criminal Investigation Department in Funchal. He is strongly suspected of committing a qualified attempted homicide, illegal possession of a prohibited weapon, and a crime committed with a weapon, all occurring in the early hours of Wednesday.
Details of the Attack
According to the PJ statement, the suspect encountered the 44-year-old victim, with whom he had long-standing disputes and had previously assaulted with a bladed weapon. The attacker stabbed the victim twice in the right rib cage, piercing his liver.
Victim's Condition and Response
As previously reported, the victim was in serious condition and at risk of death. He was rescued at 1:10 AM by the Funchal Firefighters and transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains hospitalized.
Suspect's Criminal History
The suspect had been free for less than six months after serving an effective prison sentence for robbery at the Funchal Prison. He was located and arrested by the Judicial Police following the collection of sufficient evidence to impute the crimes committed.
With an extensive criminal record, the man has served multiple prison sentences for violent crimes, including robberies and serious physical assaults. He will be brought before the Funchal Court for his first judicial interrogation to determine coercive measures.
