A British tourist in his early twenties was found dead in Albufeira, Portugal, marking the second such tragedy in the area within a short span. The incident occurred last Wednesday, with the young man reportedly falling down steps in the Old Town after a night out.
According to Correio da Manha, the tourist was discovered at the bottom of steps on Avenida da Liberdade early in the morning. Authorities have ruled out any criminal involvement, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) confirmed the death at the scene. The autopsy results remain undisclosed.
In a separate but equally tragic event, the body of Greg Monks, a 38-year-old Scottish tourist, was found in the Cerro de Aguia area. Monks had been missing since May 28 after traveling to Albufeira for a stag do. His last known sighting was near Cerro de Aguia, far from the Albufeira Strip where he parted ways with friends.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is providing support to the families affected by these incidents. Post-mortem examinations are pending for both cases, as the local community and authorities seek answers to these heartbreaking events.
