Water Challenge Returns to Algarve Schools with Fresh Activities
After a summer packed with environmental education actions on Algarve's beaches, the Water Challenge is back in classrooms to continue raising awareness among new generations about the sustainable use of water resources.
Promoted by Águas do Algarve, this educational project kicks off the new school year with more challenges, new dynamics, and a strong focus on learning methods that cater to young people's interests.
Right from the start, schools can look forward to the launch of the virtual game 'Mission Drop by Drop', available on the official Water Challenge website. It's an interactive quiz with multiple difficulty levels, covering daily habits—from the kitchen to the garden—that helps students discover the best ways to save water and test their knowledge in a fun way.
Another new feature is the Poetry Contest, aimed at 3rd and 4th-grade students. From January to April 2026, participants will be challenged to unleash their imagination and create verses about rivers, seas, raindrops, and everything water inspires. The top 10 poems will be compiled into a book dedicated to the theme, and each author will receive a €30 voucher.
The project also continues to invest in school journalism, with the AQUA Journalism challenge returning in an expanded format for secondary education, encouraging students to produce articles on issues like climate change, water scarcity, and pollution. Meanwhile, 'Save Water With Me' keeps inviting young people to share creative tips for saving and reusing water in daily life through videos, turning them into true 'influencers' of conservation.
Awareness-raising activities from the Water Challenge will tour Algarve schools, covering topics from the natural water cycle to desalination. Interested schools can request a visit by emailing desafiodaagua@aguasdoalgarve.pt.
Updates on the project and challenge launch dates can be followed on the Water Challenge's Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on the official website www.desafiodaagua.pt.
With these initiatives, the Water Challenge reinforces its mission to promote environmental literacy among younger audiences, stimulating creativity and critical thinking around a resource essential to the planet's future.
