Setúbal's 2025 Municipal Elections
RTP is hosting a series of debates in district capitals, with the Setúbal debate scheduled for September 19, 2025. This event is part of the lead-up to the municipal elections on October 12, 2025.
Candidates for Mayor
André Valente Martins (CDU)
- Age: 72, current mayor of Setúbal, member of the Ecologist Party 'Os Verdes'.
- Background: Born in Castelo Branco, holds a degree in Sociology. Served as councilor from 2001 to 2017, focusing on environment, tourism, and urbanism. Became mayor in 2021 and leads the Association of Municipalities of the Setúbal Region.
- Goals: Continue the work of the past two decades.
André Dias (Livre)
- Age: 30, native of Setúbal, works in communication and as a screenwriter.
- Platform: Presents as a "left-wing alternative" with pillars in ecology and education, also emphasizing security.
António Cachaço (Chega)
- Background: Lives in Setúbal, holds a degree in marketing. Chosen after the withdrawal of another candidate.
- Party Statement: Aims to "change Setúbal for the better" with a focus on citizen-first leadership.
Cláudio Fonseca (ADN)
- Age: 52, businessman and prison guard, former member of Chega.
- Key Measures: Enhance security, increase transparency, use municipal land for housing, and support a municipal police force.
Daniela Rodrigues (Bloco de Esquerda)

Maria das Dores Meira (Independent, supported by PSD)
- Age: 68, law graduate, former mayor from 2006 to 2021 under the Communist Party.
- Controversies: Accused of abusive credit card spending and improper travel reimbursements, currently under audit for alleged offenses.
- Platform: Modernization, transparency, economic development, sustainability, social support, culture, and cleaner spaces.
Mariana Crespo (PAN)
- Born in 1983, psychologist, elected municipal deputy in 2021.
- Goals: Environmental preservation, animal defense, and balancing nature with industrial activity.
