The Algarve Science Center (CCV Algarve) is once again joining the National Invasive Species Week, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the impacts of invasive exotic species in Portugal.
This year's program features the inauguration of the exhibition "Silent Beauties", showcasing paintings by artist Manuela Santos. Her work sensitively and meticulously depicts various invasive plant species identified in Portugal. The exhibition opens on Saturday, May 10th, at 3:30 PM, and will be on display until June 2nd in the temporary exhibition room of the CCV Algarve. Admission is free with the purchase of any ticket to the permanent exhibition.
Complementing the exhibition, an observation and recording walk of invasive exotic plants will take place on Monday, May 12th, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, starting at the CCV Algarve. The walk, set in the old town of Faro and surrounding areas, aims to:
- Identify and map exotic and invasive plant species in urban spaces, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 92/2019.
- Present proposals for urban rewilding, promoting sustainable practices for controlling these species.
Participation in the walk is free but requires prior registration.
