The CP (Comboios de Portugal) train strike has entered its third consecutive day, with a 100% participation rate among maquinistas (train drivers), bringing all services to a standstill this Friday.
António Domingos, president of the National Union of Portuguese Railway Maquinistas (SMAQ), confirmed the total halt, stating, "The adherence is 100%. The strike may still have effects tomorrow [Saturday], but they will be reduced. There are no minimum services."
From Saturday until Wednesday (May 14), maquinistas will also strike against overtime work, further extending the disruption.
This strike follows previous actions by various CP worker unions, which halted train circulation on Wednesday and Thursday. The SMAQ joined the strike on Thursday, becoming the sole union striking on Friday.
Additionally, the Railway Union of Itinerant Commercial Review (SFRCI), representing ticket inspectors and office workers, has called for a partial strike from 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM from Sunday to Wednesday (May 11-14). On Sunday and Wednesday, only long-distance trains will be affected. For this strike, 25% minimum services have been decreed.
The strikes protest against imposed salary increases that "do not restore purchasing power," demanding "collective negotiation of decent salary increases" and the "implementation of the agreement to restructure salary tables, as negotiated and agreed," according to the unions.
