Two women have filed complaints with the PSP in Braga alleging they were assaulted by participants in a Chega party rally held in the city on Thursday morning, according to a police source speaking to Lusa.
The complaints cite the crime of offenses against physical integrity, though the source declined to provide further details.
The incident occurred amidst heightened tensions during the rally, where Chega leader André Ventura was met with protests from the Roma community. Approximately 20 individuals accused Ventura and his party of being "fascists and racists," with some spitting in his direction as he arrived at the Arco da Porta Nova in central Braga.
Protesters, waving a Roma community flag and anti-Nazi movement banners, exchanged provocations with Chega supporters before the rally commenced. The situation escalated when Ventura was spat on, marking the most tense moment of the encounter.
