The Local Health Unit (ULS) of Algarve has firmly denied any security incidents, particularly those involving the Roma community, during André Ventura's hospitalization at Faro Hospital. The ULS also refuted claims of any special security measures being implemented, directly contradicting statements made by the Chega leader. Ventura had earlier asserted that a security guard was stationed outside his room in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
No records of security breaches were found before, during, or after Ventura's hospital treatment, the ULS clarified. This statement came in response to claims by Chega's parliamentary leader, Pedro Pinto, who alleged attempts to invade the hospital. The hospital's administration confirmed that no special security measures were taken for Ventura, despite his claims of having a guard at his door.
Regarding Ventura's solitary confinement in the ICU, the ULS explained that the ICU's operational dynamics, including patient placement, are based solely on technical and care-related criteria, not VIP protocols. However, the hospital acknowledged the challenges posed by treating a public figure like Ventura in a crowded emergency department, leading to his transfer to the ICU to ensure privacy and maintain operational efficiency.
Pedro Pinto also criticized the National Health Service (SNS), suggesting that Ventura wouldn't have needed to go to Faro if Tavira's emergency services were operational at night. The ULS pointed out that Tavira lacks a Basic Emergency Service (SUB), with the nearest available in Vila Real de Santo António, among others.
