The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the orange warning, the second most severe, until late Saturday afternoon for the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, and Guarda due to extreme heat.
According to IPMA, the orange warning will remain active until 18:00 on Saturday in these four inland districts of the North and Center, where maximum temperatures are expected to range between 34°C and 39°C.
The yellow warning, the least severe on a three-level scale, has also been extended until 18:00 on Saturday for the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja, due to persistently high maximum temperatures.
The district of Coimbra is no longer under a yellow warning but will be reactivated on Saturday until 18:00.
The remaining districts on the mainland are not under any warnings.
Mainland Portugal has been on alert since Sunday and until today due to the high risk of fire.
IPMA forecasts a slight drop in maximum temperatures today, especially in the North and Center coast, and a slight increase in the Algarve. The minimum temperature is also expected to decrease.
