A somber discovery was made in Aljezur as the body of a scuba diver, who had gone missing during a fishing trip, was found. The 30-year-old man was last seen with two friends but failed to return at the agreed time.
The search operation, coordinated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Lagos, concluded with the tragic find. A diving team involved in the search located the body underwater, near the area where he was last seen fishing. The diver was found at the bottom, weighed down by his gear.
Authorities have confirmed that after the Health Delegate completes the necessary procedures, the body will be transferred to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences for further examination.
The search efforts saw the collaboration of the Sagres Lifesaving Station, the Lagos Maritime Police, and a drone team from the Aljezur Volunteer Firefighters. The victim's friends, who were with him during the fishing trip, raised the alarm after he didn't return as planned.
Support is being provided to the victim's family by the Maritime Police's Psychology Office during this difficult time.
