Newborn Abandoned at Leiria Fire Station

A newborn baby was discovered abandoned at the doorstep of the Leiria Firefighters' barracks during the early hours of Monday morning. The infant was found by a firefighter on night duty who noticed the baby's presence.

Medical Response and Condition

The baby boy was transported to Santo André Hospital for medical evaluation. According to the hospital's pediatrician, the child is in stable condition and receiving ongoing medical care. When the baby arrived at the hospital emergency room, he showed no health abnormalities.

Details of the Discovery

The newborn was found inside a shopping bag that also contained diapers and milk. Medical staff confirmed the baby had been left "with all necessary care to keep him warm." The infant weighs approximately 3.5 kilograms and is more than 24 hours old.

Police Investigation Underway

The alert was issued at 03:57 AM. Both PSP and Judicial Police have been activated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.
