Algarve Classic Festival Returns to the Algarve International Autodrome
The Algarve Classic Festival is back at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve for a weekend packed with pure automotive passion. This highly anticipated event takes place from October 24 to 26, with tickets already on sale, promising three days of intense action and twelve races that celebrate the legacy of legendary cars and competitions.
A Journey Through Decades of Motorsport
The festival's program blends demonstrations, practice sessions, qualifications, and races, offering a nostalgic trip through various decades of automotive competition. All speed disciplines—Turismo, GT, single-seaters, and prototypes—are well-represented, ensuring something for every motorsport enthusiast.
Highlight: The Inaugural 300 km Algarve Sportscars Race
The headline race is the "300 km Algarve Sportscars", making its absolute debut in Portugal. This endurance event lasts 120 minutes or covers 300 kilometers, featuring mandatory pit stops for refueling and driver changes. It welcomes Prototypes built between 1963 and 1972 and GTs manufactured from 1966 to 1980. Scheduled for late Saturday afternoon, the race will conclude with cars running under headlights, evoking the spirit of classic endurance races.
Exciting Classic Racing Series
The revitalized festival in Portimão includes some of today's most thrilling classic series:
- Iberian Historic Endurance: The benchmark competition for Tourism and GT cars up to 1976, featuring two grids and four races.
- Carrera 80: An Iberian competition for GTs and Touring cars up to 1993.
- Group 1 Portugal: Dedicated to classics with Group 1 Pre-1981 specifications.
- Single Seater Series: The only single-seater competition in Portugal.
- GT & Sports Car Cup: A prestigious British-based competition for Pre-1966 GTs and Pre-1963 Prototypes that once competed in the World Endurance Championship.
Celebrating Automotive Culture Beyond the Races
Beyond the competitive action, the festival is a celebration of automotive culture. The "Classic Car Parade" for classic car clubs on Saturday and classic motorcycle parades on Sunday provide unique opportunities to admire these wheeled gems up close in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Additionally, a Formula V demonstration is scheduled for Friday.
