In a startling operation, the GNR (National Republican Guard) arrested 50 drivers in just four hours across the main access routes to the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The majority were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during a special road traffic enforcement action.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol is not only a criminal offense but also a major risk factor for road accidents," the GNR emphasized.
Legal Implications
According to the Highway Code, driving with a BAC of 0.5 g/l or higher is prohibited. A BAC of 1.2 g/l or more is considered a crime punishable by imprisonment.
All detainees were notified to appear before the Public Ministry.
