A house was engulfed by flames in Ermelo, Mondim de Basto, amidst three active fire hotspots that continue to draw the focus of emergency teams, as reported by the mayor.
The Incident
"In Ermelo, we had a house hit by the fire, marking the only residence affected in the municipality so far," stated Bruno Ferreira. The property, originally a forest house converted into a dwelling, was "completely ravaged."
Current Situation
The blaze, which ignited on Saturday in Sirarelhos, Vila Real, has since spread to Mondim de Basto, where three unconnected active hotspots are posing significant challenges. Areas particularly at risk include Pardelhas, Ermelo, and Fervença.
- Pardelhas: The fire remains dangerously close to the village.
- Fervença: Tracked machinery has been instrumental in firefighting efforts.
Additional Concerns
Pardelhas faced a shortage of drinking water, likely due to its use in fire prevention measures. The local authority has since replenished the village's water reserves.
Transportation Impact
The Estrada Nacional 304, connecting Alto do Velão to Ermelo, remains closed to traffic as a safety measure.
Emergency Response
By 17:15, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) had mobilized approximately 506 operatives, 162 vehicles, and eight aerial units to tackle the incident.
