The Algarve is proudly promoting itself as a "benchmark beach destination", thanks to a remarkable total of 238 distinctions that highlight the environmental quality, accessibility, and safety of its bathing areas.
In 2025, the region was awarded 91 Blue Flags, covering 85 beaches, four marinas, and two ecotourism boats, solidifying its status as the national leader in beaches recognized with this international environmental quality award. Albufeira stands out in Portugal with 26 Blue Flags, awarded to 25 beaches and the city's marina.
Additionally, 84 Algarve beaches received the Gold Quality award from the Quercus Association, celebrating the consistent excellence of their bathing water quality.
The commitment to accessibility is also noteworthy: this summer, 48 beaches are officially marked as Accessible Beaches under the "Accessible Beach - Beach for All!" program, offering suitable conditions for visitors with reduced mobility.
Further accolades include the ZERO Pollution award given to 14 regional beaches, a distinction reserved for bathing areas that have recorded no microbiological contamination over the last three bathing seasons.
On the international stage, the Algarve was named the "Best Beach Destination in the World" for the third time by the World Travel Awards. Praia da Falésia in Albufeira continues to rank among the world's best, holding the 5th global and 2nd European spots in 2025 after leading the TripAdvisor rankings in 2024.
André Gomes, President of Algarve Tourism, stated, "These 238 distinctions reflect the consistent work of the 16 Algarve municipalities and our sector partners. The Algarve is ready to welcome all visitors with the quality and hospitality that are already our hallmark."
