Armed Threats in Algarve
In a dramatic turn of events, the PSP (Public Security Police) detained a 30-year-old man in Olhão, suspected of committing over twenty robberies, including attacks on local accommodations. The arrest occurred early Tuesday morning after an intrusion alarm was triggered at a commercial establishment in the city center.
The Arrest
Police swiftly responded to the alarm, catching the suspect still inside the premises. During a search, authorities seized €623 in cash, four packs of tobacco, a mobile phone, and the tools used to break into the building.
A Pattern of Crime
This man was previously identified as the perpetrator of a robbery just the day before, where he coerced guests at a local accommodation with a bladed weapon, forcing them to withdraw cash from an ATM, which he subsequently stole.
According to the PSP, through extensive investigative efforts, the suspect is linked to over twenty crimes since the end of last year, spanning locations such as Faro, Olhão, Tavira, and Vila Real de Santo António.
Estimated Losses
The police estimate that the criminal activities, primarily involving robbery, qualified theft, and aggravated threats, have resulted in stolen goods valued at approximately €9,000, not including numerous electrical and electronic devices also reported stolen, the total value of which remains uncalculated.
Legal Proceedings
After all investigative procedures were completed, the suspect was taken to Olhão Court, where he has been placed in preventive custody.
