Strong Winds Bring Chaos to Beja
A meteorological phenomenon struck Porto Peles, in the parish of Nossa Senhora das Neves, within the municipality of Beja, causing significant damage on Friday. This incident involved strong winds that resulted in damage to infrastructure, roofs, and telecommunication networks, as well as uprooted and broken trees.
The President of the Beja Municipal Chamber stated that "everything indicates it was a tornado," highlighting that, despite the lack of casualties, it was a phenomenon of great speed that caused "a lot of destruction."
In statements to Lusa, António Guerreiro, the second commander of the Beja Volunteer Firefighters, noted that this event occurred around 08:00 AM and mentioned that there might be instances of people left homeless due to the damage.
The Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo reported that four firefighters are involved in the rescue operations, supported by two vehicles.
