André Ventura, the president of the Chega party, felt unwell during a speech he was delivering at a dinner-rally in Tavira this Tuesday. He was immediately assisted by his team and transported by ambulance to the hospital in Faro, arriving around 10:40 PM.
The hospital has assured that the Chega leader is out of danger and his health condition does not raise major concerns, but he will stay overnight at Faro Hospital for evaluation. Ventura is scheduled to repeat the tests on Wednesday and will be discharged if everything is normal.
The INEM doctor who assisted André Ventura during the ambulance ride from Tavira to Faro Hospital told journalists that "everything is fine" with the Chega president.
"Everything is fine with him at this moment," said the doctor, mentioning that "everything went well" and that the emergency team's response was "very fast and very good."
Pedro Pinto, the leader of Chega's parliamentary group, addressed the attendees at the dinner-rally after André Ventura was taken to the hospital: "Don't worry, we will win the elections on May 18."
"On the advice of doctors, he went to the hospital for some evaluations and everything will be fine," said Pedro Pinto, adding that the leader requested the meeting should continue. "We will continue with this dinner (...) we will continue to fight for this country, for this party," concluded the parliamentary leader, asking for applause for André Ventura.
Pedro Pinto specified that the Chega leader felt a chest pain and would go to the hospital "as a precaution" to "perform routine tests."
Municipal Firefighters from Tavira rushed to the scene, along with an INEM ambulance providing immediate life support.
In total, six professionals were involved: two firefighters from Tavira Volunteers in the firefighters' ambulance, two INEM professionals, a nurse, and a pre-hospital emergency technician in the INEM ambulance (with immediate life support), and a doctor and a nurse in the INEM car.
In a second intervention at the rally, the Chega deputy told supporters he was "certain" that on Wednesday André Ventura "will return to the streets with that energy" to continue the electoral campaign.
