Lisbon's Urban Planning Councillor, Joana Almeida, has firmly denied claims that the Marvila parish is being neglected, showcasing a significant investment of €124.5 million in the area.
During a session with the 5th Permanent Commission of the Lisbon Municipal Assembly, Almeida addressed a petition demanding action against the alleged abandonment of Marvila. The petition highlighted issues such as degraded municipal housing, lack of family doctors, and insufficient public transport.
Em curso estão projetos como o Plano de Urbanização do Vale de Santo António e da Área de Reabilitação Urbana de Chelas
Almeida outlined ongoing and planned investments, including the Urbanization Plan for Vale de Santo António and the Urban Rehabilitation Area of Chelas, which aim to construct thousands of homes and expand green spaces. These projects represent a total investment of €700 million and are expected to significantly impact Marvila.
Additionally, the Marvila-Beato axis is set to benefit from major developments like the new Hospital de Todos os Santos, the Third Tagus Crossing, and the E16 rapid tram line. Almeida emphasized the council's commitment to improving housing, public spaces, and healthcare facilities in the area.
The petition's concerns were met with a robust defense of the council's efforts, underscoring a strong investment in Marvila's future.
