Lisbon Municipality Signs Agreement to Open 14 New Preschool Classrooms
The Lisbon City Council has signed a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, enabling the opening of 14 new preschool classrooms with a capacity for 350 children. This expansion, set to be implemented in the current school year, strengthens the public school network in Lisbon and better addresses the needs of families.
According to a statement from the CML, "The 14 classrooms now announced will join three others that entered into operation this school year as an initiative of the municipality."
Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon, emphasized, "In Lisbon, we believe that access to preschool education is a crucial factor for promoting equal opportunities and the development of our children, complementing the efforts of their families. Today, we took a very important step to realize this vision, and soon we will provide 350 new spots, which will serve 350 families."
Under the terms of the agreement, the Municipality of Lisbon is responsible for ensuring suitable physical spaces for the classrooms and providing non-teaching staff. The Ministry of Education, in turn, will handle teaching staff and coordinate with families on enrollment procedures.
