The Algarve is set to mark World Tourism Day 2025 on September 27 with a festive and diverse program that engages residents, visitors, and industry partners. The highlight will be the 55th Anniversary Gala of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) at the Vilamoura Casino, which concludes the institution's anniversary celebrations and will be broadcast live on television. Initiatives also include a special radio broadcast by Rádio Observador, activities at RTA tourism offices, and the return of the Algarve Nature Fest to Aljezur and Monchique.
Gala of the 55 Years of RTA
On September 27, the Miralago Hall at the Vilamoura Casino will host the Gala of the 55 Years of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA). This event brings together personalities and partners from the sector for a night of tributes and awards to various individuals and entities, as well as a celebration of Algarve tourism. With live television broadcast on CONECTV ALGARVE (position 164 MEO), the gala aims to be not only an institutional moment and the closing of RTA's 55th-anniversary festivities but also a true party featuring live music, the 'Dance Flavours' show, and the spirit of sharing that has characterized RTA's history.
Special Rádio Observador Broadcast
The day before, on September 26, Rádio Observador will broadcast live from Faro Airport between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, with a special edition entirely dedicated to the Algarve. Gastronomy and wines, cultural and natural heritage, major events, and future projects will be highlighted throughout the broadcast, which will include the participation of local and national guests to share the stories and experiences that make the Algarve a year-round destination.
Actions at Tourism Offices
Also on September 27, tourists visiting RTA tourism offices in various locations can participate in demonstrations and tastings of regional products that reflect the area's gastronomic and cultural identity. Gifts are also planned for those who stop by the Algarve Tourism information network. Thus, visitors choosing the region for their holidays at this time of year will have the opportunity to take home small souvenirs celebrating World Tourism Day.
Algarve Nature Fest
From September 26 to 28, Aljezur and Monchique will host the Algarve Nature Fest, a festival entirely dedicated to nature tourism and direct contact with the territory. The program includes over 40 free activities, such as hiking, electric bike tours, surf lessons, bird watching, and jeep safaris, inviting residents and visitors to discover the authenticity of the Algarve through outdoor experiences that value natural resources and promote healthy lifestyles. Integrated into the festival, a fam trip with nine international operators will take place, featuring a B2B meeting with regional tourism trade, providing over 100 business meetings aimed at strengthening the international promotion of the destination.
With this diverse program, Algarve Tourism joins the international celebrations of World Tourism Day 2025, whose theme is 'Tourism and Sustainable Transformation', emphasizing the region's vision as a destination that bets on sustainability, innovation, and the valorization of local communities.
For André Gomes, President of Algarve Tourism, this is also an opportunity to reinforce the central message of World Tourism Day: 'This path is all the more important because we know that sustainability is no longer an option: it is a demand. It is a demand from travelers, who seek genuine, responsible experiences aligned with environmental preservation values. It is a demand from residents, who want to enjoy tourism that respects their territories, generates wealth, but also protects resources and values local identity. It is a demand of our time! By aligning with the theme chosen by UN Tourism, we reaffirm the Algarve's commitment to a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future.'
