Simply Travel, a partner of Flixbus, has made a groundbreaking investment of two million euros in double-decker buses, marking a first for domestic routes in Portugal, specifically between Braga, Porto, and the Algarve.
The new double-decker buses offer more seats and a unique travel experience.
Flixbus has introduced the first double-decker buses to operate on domestic routes in Portugal, enhancing connectivity and comfort for travelers. These buses, equipped with 77 to 79 seats, aim to meet the increasing demand, especially during peak seasons, by offering more efficient and sustainable operations.
Expanding Routes and Services
Four double-decker buses will join Flixbus's domestic network, primarily servicing night connections between Braga, Porto, and the Algarve. The inaugural route, launched on July 3, connects Porto (Airport and Campanhã) to Lagos, passing through the Alentejo region, including cities like Évora, Beja, and Faro.
This expansion also introduces Setúbal and Montemor-o-Novo to Flixbus's domestic network, offering new night connections to Lisbon, Coimbra, and Porto.
Meeting Growing Demand
Tiago Cavaco Alves, Flixbus's operations director in Portugal, highlighted the company's commitment to investing in Portugal's transportation infrastructure, especially to accommodate the surge in demand during the summer months. The Algarve, a top holiday destination, sees significant domestic and international traffic, prompting the introduction of a direct line from Vigo to Faro.
Despite challenges, including access restrictions to certain terminals, Flixbus remains optimistic about the government's plans to eliminate barriers in road transport, aiming to improve service quality and availability.
