A coral reef fossil site, preserved in 'life position', unveils a vanished Algarve from a time when the climate was tropical. This remarkable discovery is credited to paleontologist Stefan Rosendahl.
After defending his doctoral thesis in 1984, Stefan left the University of Stuttgart, Germany, driven by a quest for happiness and love. "I came chasing a Portuguese love," he shares. Marrying a professor from the University of Algarve, Stefan built his academic career in Portugal, teaching at the University of Beira Interior and other higher education institutions.
Now retired, Stefan has embraced a new role: "I am a scientific tourism guide," he states, dedicating himself to promoting the Algarve's geological heritage. He also collaborates with the Ciência Viva Centers in Faro and Lagos as an external consultant.
"The Algarve has more to offer than just beaches," Stefan emphasizes, highlighting attractions like the Pirinéu geosite (known as the disappeared mountains of Pangea) and other globally significant monuments.
