The Liberal Initiative (IL) has approved a right-wing municipal coalition in Coimbra, joining forces with PSD, CDS, PPM, Volt, MPT, and Nós, Cidadãos under the banner "Juntos Somos Coimbra," led by the current mayor, José Manuel Silva. This decision was ratified by the IL's national council, which also confirmed alliances for the municipal races in Vila Nova de Gaia and Sintra.
In Vila Nova de Gaia, the IL will ally with PSD and CDS, supporting Luís Filipe Menezes's candidacy, with Paulo Rangel, the Foreign Affairs Minister, as his deputy. Meanwhile, in Sintra, the IL has partnered with the PSD to back Marco Almeida, a move that led the CDS to run independently.
The national council also endorsed coalitions in Faro, Gondomar, Vila Franca de Xira, and other municipalities, showcasing the IL's strategic partnerships across the country. Additionally, the party will run solo in 30 municipalities, including Braga, where former IL leader Rui Rocha is the candidate.
Notably, the agreement for Lisbon's municipal race remains pending, with speculation that the IL may support Carlos Moedas's reelection bid, diverging from its stance four years ago.
