In a significant operation in Lisbon's Penha de França parish, the PSP (Public Security Police) closed two illegal lodgings and identified 26 foreigners. The raid, conducted on Wednesday, targeted various accommodations suspected of economic exploitation, illegal lodging, commercial establishments, and areas used as clandestine dormitories.
Key findings from the operation include the seizure of a white weapon and several falsified documents. The PSP also reported issuing a notice for aiding illegal immigration, leading to one individual being charged and given a term of identity and residence. Additionally, a notification for voluntary departure from the national territory was made.
Collaboration with ASAE and the Municipal Police of Lisbon led to the confiscation of a fake passport and power of attorney, along with various documents containing identifying data of foreign citizens and their criminal records. The operation focused on illegal housing exploitation, ensuring safety, health, and dignity for residents, and mitigating extremely precarious living conditions.
The operation uncovered numerous violations, resulting in 20 notices for failing to update residence permits and two for not reporting paid lodging of foreigners to the authorities. Other infractions included outdated National Register of Local Accommodation, illegal local lodging in an annex, unauthorized travel agency operation, and violations of fire safety rules.
Two illegal lodgings were ordered to close, and two rooms were suspended for exceeding the capacity of 10 occupants. The joint action aimed to ensure safety, legality, and dignified housing for all citizens, combating illegal lodging exploitation and urban living condition degradation.
