In the first round of hearings on the RJIES (Legal Regime of Higher Education Institutions), budget discussions also took center stage. The proposed increase for higher education is expected to be around 45 million euros.

There's "a great convergence" among rectors regarding the government's proposal to transform polytechnic institutes, both public and private, into "polytechnic universities," states Paulo Ferreira, president of the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities (CRUP). The rectors' stance on this issue can be summarized in a few words: "It does not serve the country's interest."
