Luís Montenegro has made it clear that his government's focus is on solving people's problems, not getting sidetracked by critics. This comes in response to José Luís Carneiro's opinion piece, where he accused the government of "electoralist" measures and shared concerns over potential hate crimes against immigrants. Speaking at the PSD-Madeira event, Montenegro emphasized his commitment to all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
"We will rise to the trust the people have placed in us, including those who voted for other parties," Montenegro declared, highlighting his inclusive approach to governance. He dismissed Carneiro's criticisms, particularly the accusation that the pension bonus was an electoral ploy, defending it as a move of social justice.
On immigration, Montenegro countered Carneiro's claims, stating that a policy aimed at regulating and dignifying immigration is far from promoting hate. "Those who see hate in our policies are not fit for government responsibilities," he asserted.
The Prime Minister also praised his government's social-democratic ethos, focusing on tax reductions for workers and the youth, and not forgetting retirees and pensioners. He assured Madeira of his support, promising advancements in regional finance laws and the completion of the Funchal University Hospital, alongside improving postal services for mobility subsidy reimbursements.
Montenegro's unwavering support for Miguel Albuquerque's regional government and the PSD-Madeira's electoral ambitions was also a key point of his address, reinforcing the party's determination to win across all fronts in Madeira.
