PSD leader Luís Montenegro, welcomed with fireworks and a municipal band at Herdade do Chão da Lagoa, emphasized his openness to dialogue with all political forces, especially regarding the emigration law. Accompanied by regional leader Miguel Albuquerque, Montenegro, also Portugal's Prime Minister, addressed the necessity of cross-party cooperation for stable governance.
When questioned about potential agreements with Chega on sensitive governance issues, Montenegro maintained a politically correct stance, stating his commitment to governing effectively for all Portuguese citizens. He highlighted the importance of fostering hope among the youth, economic growth, and social justice.
Montenegro reiterated his strategy of engaging in constant dialogue with all political parties to ensure legislative progress, though he clarified this does not mean forming a permanent governance pact. He pointed out the Partido Socialista's (PS) stubbornness on certain positions after eight years in power but expressed hope for collaboration on emigration policies, despite acknowledging the challenges of shifting stances quickly.
The event also featured a tour of party booths representing 54 parishes and three party organs, with speeches expected from national and regional leaders, including the Madeira branch's secretary-general.
