This program, organized by the Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome do Algarve (Algarve Food Bank Against Hunger), awarded the three best chefs from the region's social sector. The event was hosted by Algarve actor João Mota.

Attendees included representatives from all institutions with competing chefs, as well as partners and entities involved in the program, such as the University of Algarve represented by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ana de Freitas, the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary by Dr. Cristina Ferradeira, Águas do Algarve by Dr. Teresa Fernandes, the School of Hotelery and Tourism of the Algarve by Dr. Paula Vicente, Sogenave by Dr. Alexandre Bastos, and Caixa Geral de Depósitos by Dr. Sónia Alexandre.

Top Chefs and Program Details

In this first edition of Missão D Chef 2025, the winner was chef Telma Costa from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Silves. Second place went to chef Natália Gonçalves from the Casa do Povo de São Bartolomeu de Messines, and third place was awarded to chef Cirlene Sousa from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila do Bispo.

Fifteen chefs from thirteen institutions across the region, from Vila do Bispo to Vila Real de Santo António, participated in this year's inaugural edition. The program started in March and concluded on World Food Day.

Focus on Nutrition and Sustainability

The program's foundation was based on nutrition and the full utilization of food to mitigate food waste, enhancing the meals served by Algarve's social sector institutions while considering the Mediterranean Diet. Hygiene, food safety, and cooking techniques were also developed with the competing chefs.

This program was recognized with the CAIXA SOCIAL'24 award from Caixa Geral de Depósitos, valued at twenty-five thousand euros, as a project in the area of community health.

Future Plans and Success

Nuno Cabrita Alves, President of the Banco Alimentar do Algarve, stated that this first edition was a huge success and that the second edition will take place in 2026, with an increase in partners joining all those who made the first edition happen. He emphasized that there will be several surprises in the second edition.
