SheUltra Comes to Portugal
SheUltra, the world's largest women's trail event, is making its debut in Portugal on November 1, 2025, starting in the Algarve. The 48 km route connects Praia da Falésia to the AP Victoria Sports & Beach Hotel, offering an inclusive experience where women can walk or run at their own pace—no time limits and no pressure.
Origins and Mission
Founded in 2024 in Wales by Huw Williams, who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer, SheUltra was created to provide a safe, supportive space for all women. Since its inception, the event has expanded to the UK and Italy, attracting thousands of participants and raising over €92,000 for women's cancer support organizations.
Impact in Portugal
In Portugal, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the oncology team in Faro. Already, €3,000 has been donated through SheUltra Legacy via Just Giving links, and two breast examination mannequins will be provided to help nurses train and demonstrate how to check for cancer signs.
Inclusive and Empowering Features
SheUltra stands out for its inclusive nature, carefully designed for the female experience. There is no time limit, allowing each woman to participate comfortably. Medals are given at the start to honor those who have passed away and those fighting cancer. The entire organization and support team are women—from medical staff to aid stations—ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
Local Support and Community Engagement
The event is supported locally by the Associação Free Challenge and Associação ATR-Algarve Trail Running, aiming to encourage participation in other community events and use SheUltra as a platform for engagement and inspiration.
Founder's Vision
For founder Huw Williams, living with stage 4 cancer, choosing Portugal goes beyond international expansion—it's about bringing cancer conversations into the open, creating a safe and powerful space where women can move together, discuss health openly, undergo screenings, and act early.
"SheUltra isn't about competition—it's about connection, health, and courage. We want every woman to finish thinking: if I can do this, I can do anything." – Huw Williams.
