A 14-year-old minor has been detained by the Judicial Police on suspicion of killing his mother yesterday afternoon in Gafanha da Vagueira, Vagos municipality.
In a statement, the Judicial Police reported that there are "strong indications of a qualified homicide crime."
The victim, Susana Gravato, 49, a councilor at the Vagos Municipal Council, was shot with a firearm inside her own home.
"Following immediate investigations, it was possible to identify and collect several pieces of evidence and recover the firearm used, which belongs to the minor's father," reads the statement.
The alleged perpetrator will be brought before a judge for his first judicial interrogation.
Three Days of Municipal Mourning in Vagos
"In this hour of grief, we extend our deepest condolences and solidarity to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who worked with her. Municipal Mourning has been declared for three days in her memory and public recognition," wrote the municipality in a social media post.
Susana Gravato, a law graduate, practiced law and had been a PSD member since 1994.
In 2009, she was elected as a municipal deputy for the Vagos Primeiro movement, and currently served as a councilor in the outgoing executive (PSD), overseeing portfolios including environment, justice, general administration, social cohesion, and health, among others.
