Get Active on the Marginal: Major Road Closure for Sunday's Sports Event
The Avenida Marginal, stretching across the municipalities of Cascais, Oeiras, and Lisbon, will be closed to traffic on the morning of Sunday, September 21, due to the "Mexa-se na Marginal" initiative, as announced by the Lisbon municipality.
In a statement, the Lisbon City Council informed that the Avenida Marginal will be closed to traffic from 10:00 to 13:00, covering the section from Parede (Cascais) to Alcântara (Lisboa).
"In total, there will be over 15 km of sports activities for all ages, from Alcântara (Lisbon) to Parede (Cascais), crossing the entire waterfront of the Oeiras municipality," the note states.
The event is organized by the municipalities of Cascais, Oeiras, and Lisbon and has a recreational and sports character, aiming to "encourage physical exercise and the adoption of healthy lifestyles" with activities such as walks, runs, bike rides, skateboarding or rollerblading, as well as events along the riverside.
According to the municipality, along the route, there will be activities ranging from climbing to pilates, tennis to surfing, sailing to orienteering, including group classes, physical training circuits, health screenings, inflatables, pedal vehicles, and traditional games.
