Summary:

  • A tourist's cry for help led to the arrest of a thief in Lisbon

  • Undercover police intercepted the suspect with the stolen 35 euros

  • The thief has a known history of similar crimes

  • Biweekly check-ins ordered as a coercive measure

A desperate cry for help from a tourist robbed in Lisbon led to the swift arrest of a 47-year-old thief, already known to the authorities. The incident occurred on Thursday in Arroios, where undercover police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division were conducting preventive patrols due to a spike in thefts in the area.

The tourist's shouts of "He stole my money!" caught the attention of the officers, who joined the chase on foot. The suspect was quickly intercepted and found in possession of the exact amount of money the victim claimed was stolen—35 euros. The money was seized and returned to its rightful owner.

The thief, who has a history of similar offenses, was detained and later presented for his first judicial interrogation. He was given the coercive measure of biweekly check-ins with authorities.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of undercover police work in high-risk areas and serves as a reminder to tourists to remain vigilant in crowded places.
