Bloco de Esquerda and Livre are set to request an audience with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to discuss the recent amendments to the law regulating the entry, stay, exit, and removal of foreigners from national territory. The amendments were approved in a final global vote this Wednesday in the plenary session. The parties are calling for a veto, citing potential unconstitutional aspects and criticizing the approval process for lacking consultations with experts, institutions, and immigrant associations.
Isabel Mendes Lopes, the parliamentary leader of Livre, and Mariana Mortágua, a deputy from Bloco de Esquerda, announced their intention after the leaders' conference meeting. They emphasized the importance of democratic and civic engagement in shaping policies that affect immigrants and the broader society.
