Discover the "Paraíso de Coura" Exhibition
Alfredo Cunha, a renowned photographer, is bringing 20 years of captivating images from the Paredes de Coura festival to Lisbon. Based on his book of the same name, this exhibition will be held at atmosfera m, the cultural space of Montepio Associação Mutualista, from March 6 to April 17. The best part? Entry is free!
What to Expect
The opening event will feature Alfredo Cunha, the director of Vodafone Paredes de Coura, João Carvalho, and curator Sandra Maria Teixeira, with a conversation moderated by journalist Mário Lopes.
Alfredo Cunha has a rich history, having begun his career in 1970 and served as the official photographer for presidents Ramalho Eanes and Mário Soares, capturing pivotal moments in contemporary history, from April 25 to the Portuguese decolonization.
In his latest visual testimony, "Paraíso de Coura", published by Tinta da China in August 2024, Cunha documents the festival's evolution into a cornerstone of Portuguese alternative music and highlights why its environment has become a favorite among the Portuguese public.
A Star-Studded History
Over the years, Paredes de Coura has hosted a variety of famous artists, including Coldplay, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, Lorde, Skepta, New Order, Patti Smith, and Motörhead. This year, the 31st edition of the festival will take place from August 13 to 16, featuring artists like Vampire Weekend, Air, Franz Ferdinand, and Black Country, New Road.
