United Airlines has finally launched the much-anticipated direct route between Faro and New York (Newark Airport). This seasonal schedule includes four flights per week until the end of September, marking a significant milestone in Algarve-US air travel.
Initially planned to take off last year, the route was postponed by United Airlines. However, history was made this Saturday with the inaugural flight. Interestingly, this achievement coincides with TAP's launch of two new US routes: Lisbon-Los Angeles and Porto-Boston.
"United is the first and only airline to offer direct flights from Faro to the US, providing more flights between Portugal and the US and serving more destinations in Portugal than any other US carrier," the company announced, highlighting its offerings.
The seasonal non-stop service to the Algarve, expected to run until September 23, will be operated on Boeing 757-200 aircraft, featuring a total of 176 seats—16 in United Polaris SM business class and 160 in United Economy SM, including 42 Economy PlusSM seats.
Flights depart from Faro on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with return flights from New York on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The flight duration is approximately 8 hours and 20 minutes, with round-trip prices starting at around 463 euros on the airline's website.
United also offers year-round flights between Lisbon and New York/Newark, nearly year-round daily services from Lisbon to Washington D.C., seasonal daily services from Porto and Ponta Delgada, Azores, to New York/Newark, and a new seasonal service from Madeira to New York starting June 8.
Guido Dias Araújo, United's regional sales manager for Europe, emphasized that beyond the direct route, this facilitates connections to 56 additional destinations in the US via the Newark hub.
