A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Albufeira, Portugal, where two British friends lost their lives less than 24 hours after arriving for their holiday. King Edonmi, 29, and Mo Liasu, 27, both from Ipswich, are believed to have drowned in a hotel swimming pool on July 15.
King's sister, Kemi Edonmi, shared a poignant statement online, revealing that her brother died trying to save his best friend Mo. She emphasized that reports suggesting the two had been drinking were false, stating, "My brother and Mo do not drink and were not intoxicated at the time of the incident."
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to support the repatriation of their bodies and assist their families, surpassing its £20,000 target with over £24,500 raised. Organizer Angelo Antonio described the duo as "warm, loyal, funny and full of dreams," highlighting the profound loss felt by their community.
Portuguese authorities have confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious, with witnesses corroborating the accidental nature of the tragedy. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is providing support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
